Question for Catholics about purgatory and indulgences?

So many informed answers outside of Susanna who keeps claiming she was once Catholic but never seems to know what we really teach and believe. Now on to Purgatory and indulgences and hopefully i can add to all the wonderful answers you've received. Indulgences you might consider like a bank savings account. It is sacrifices for our sins where we bank the results for use at a later time. Purgatory is not for forgiveness or Punishment but for the removal of the stains left upon our souls from our sins. Sort of like you hit a friend because of anger and you repented and was truly sorry but as you grow older lets say your friend became a Champion Boxer so to make your self look or feel better you brag to friends about the time you hit him. Well time in Purgatory will help you fully understand the stain of sin your act caused and remove that mistake by your eventual understanding of the full effect of hitting your friend and later bragging about it because he was now a Champion fighter so now you've added the sin of pride to the original sin and GOD wants you to fully have it all removed with a completeness of understanding. Now during your time in Purgatory the prayers of others and the acts of sacrifice which earned you your indulgences will be used in speeding up the whole process and time spent preparing to be in GODs presence. Hope i made sense and it helped.
