Why do BC and Alberta keep creating service and hospitality sector jobs when there is noone to fill them?
For example, the local paper estimated that all 650,000 students and teenagers could be put to work and there still would not be enough people to work in these sectors between 2007 and 2010. The Olympics is coming up and there won't be enough people to fill these positions. Many remain part-time, on call and low-wage with high demands for education and experience. Some are just temporary by nature by there is no bonus scheme. Often, no fair scheduling. Who is going to go for this with high demands and little remuneration and fairness? Do they plan on hiring people through guest worker programs? They estimate that only thirty percent of students and teenagers will take jobs in those sectors.
